Garry was first licensed in 1956 as KN2RQC and earned his Extra (the first time) at 16. The DX bug bit early and the DXCC certificate came in 1963. After a 16-year hiatus to pursue an engineering career, he again passed the Extra and returned to radio as NI6T in 1982. The DX bug bit again on a solo flyfishing trip in 1989 and is still alive. His first DXpedition was to T32 for the CQWW RTTY contest in 1992.
Garry has earned #1 Honor Roll Mixed/Phone and needs P5 for CW. He has DXCC on 9 bands, numerous flavors of WAZ and pursues the DXCC Challenge, IOTA and CQ Field award programs. He lists contesting and 160m among his primary addictions and is a member of both NCDXC and NCCC. He prefers CW and RTTY.
Since that first T32 trip, Garry has participated in expeditions to Conway Reef, Rodrigues, Kingman Reef and Kure Atoll—the last two as co-leader.
